On Nov. 10, the Lexington girls soccer team lost 2-0 against Brookline High School in the final round of the the Northern division tournament. The Lexington girls soccer team has not made it this far in the tournament since 2000.
“Making [it to] the tournament is always a goal that we write down at the beginning of the season, but getting to even the second round of the tournament is another hurdle entirely,” Elizabeth Stump, a junior on the varsity team, said.
Even as the season wound down, the team was revving up, increasing the intensity of practices to prepare for the Northern division tournament.
“We had amazing teammates that we could rely on and that would push us every day,” Stump said.
With a higher number of underclassmen, the team faced an experience gap amid the intense competition of the Middlesex community. Typically, older team members have accumulated more teamwork, tactics and communication skills, but the younger teammates held their own.
“We knew we were a special team,” Jenny Fiore, a junior on the team, said.
Team members are happy in spite of the finals loss.
“We were making history,” Stump said.
The team’s graduating seniors are Reina Ades, Ava Buchanan, Abigail Donaghy, Sheyda Hershberger, Avani Kabra and Claire Shiple.
