On Nov. 21, Lexington High School held its second annual Spirit Day. Students and staff participated in a variety of performances and activities, while others in the bleachers watched the acts and games take place.
From Chinese yo-yo to a cappella, Spirit Day provided students with the opportunity to present their talents. Games introduced an element of friendly competition.
“I chose to participate in Spirit Day to contribute to school pride and create a memorable first time performing with Euphoria,” Yubin Cho, a junior in Euphoria, an a capella group, said.
A fairly new addition to the school-wide events LHS hosts, Spirit Day was established to encourage a stronger connection between the four grades.
“Spirit Day impacts the LHS community by creating opportunities for students to participate and bond as a grade, and encouraging leadership initiatives that students can take on. Spirit Day ultimately supports a positive and collaborative environment at LHS,” Cho said.
However, some students were disappointed by the lack of participation in the event.
“I think right now Spirit Day isn’t what it could be. It’s sort of just each grade level standing and watching people. At least in my personal experience, there is no feeling of the school community really coming together. If there was some way to include everybody in an activity in smaller groups such as homerooms, people would be more inclined to participate,” Karen Oh, a junior, said.
